Pony - bridge toll and PATCO Fare Hikes in effect - Patch.com

Almost any way you slice it, it will cost more to cross the Delaware River starting today.

July 1 scored a double hit in the zone tariff and toll hikes. With PATCO fares to bridge toll increases, motorists and cyclists can expect to pay more on the speedline and crossing the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges.

Tolls on each of these bridges will increase from $ 1 to $ 5. All bridges have one-way tolls.

Seniors can still get discounts on the passages of bridge in two ways: there is a greater discount of 50% E-ZPass or elderly people can use discount tickets for a toll of $2.50, according to the Delaware River Port Authority (pad), which oversees the PATCO and four bridges.

Crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge - managed by the Delaware River and Bay authority - also costs more today. For cars, the toll is passed by a round-trip from $ 1 to $ 4.

Tolls for the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington Bristol bridge, operated by the Burlington County Board bridge, remain unchanged at $2.

During this time, PATCO also has a new tariff structure. Riders will pay approximately 10 per cent, with the total cost depending on their journey. A round trip ride of Lindenwold in Philadelphia, for example, costs now $6, compared to $5.40 before the increase.

New range of rates of return of $2.80 for travel between any station in Philadelphia for a return of $6 for a journey to the end of the line of Lindenwold in Philadelphia.

Increases of tariffs and fees in the works since December, when the Board of Directors of the pad approved the increases.

Cyclists and motorists are not likely to applaud the extra cost, the pad, in a press release, put a positive spin on the rides. The extra money, the Agency says, will fund improvement projects of needed capital, including $ 1 billion. And, according to the pad, these projects will create 30,000 jobs in the private sector.

"Keep our bridges and PATCO well-maintained and secure is our single most important responsibility," John j. Matheussen, President of PATCO and CEO of the pad, said in a statement. "Our customers who pay taxes and tariffs have every right to expect that their hard-earned money is being spent to keep our bridges and trains, safe, secure and in good condition."

Current and future projects identified by the pad include:

• Replacement of the bridge of the Walt Whitman Bridge centre
• Repair structural and drainage and electrical improvements on the Ben Franklin Bridge
• Structural repairs, improvements to the drainage, bridge corrosion inhibitor of the application, security and lighting and ramp widening of the work on the Commodore Barry Bridge
• Structural improvements, repairs of concrete and drainage and steel on the Betsy Ross Bridge repairs
• Revision of all the cars PATCO 120
• Pavement rehabilitation and repair of Haddonfield and Ashland stations PATCO parking lots
• Replacement PATCO cables feeding, pole lines, lines to fibre-optic and other communications and signalling lines.
