Twitter by 8% of internauts American (New York Times)

Despite its rapid growth and media, Twitter remains a niche service United States used by only 8% of American Internet users according to a new survey of Internet & American Life Project of Pew Research Center. The figures to paint a picture of a dynamic communication platform is still a ways off the coast of a common tool for most users.

When factoring that 74% of Americans currently use the Internet, said Pew Twitter is actually used by 6 per cent of all Americans and more popular among urban Hispanic, black and younger users. Among 18-29 years, 14 percent use Twitter, compared to 7% of 30-49-year-olds, the second group. Eighteen percent of Hispanic respondents and 13% of African-Americans reported use of Twitter, compared to 5% of white users. Eleven per cent urban respondents and 8% of participants in suburban said they used Twitter whereas 5% of the rural users said they did.

Twitter, the company of San Francisco for four years, recently declared that he 175 million users, with 370 000 new users sign every day and 65 percent of users living outside the United States. According to Pew, first effort of the Centre de recherche examine Twitter exclusively, 36% of Twitter users for new posts daily while 41% say based audit survey that they verify site less than every few weeks or never at all to do.

Those who update on Twitter, 72% said that their positions are on their personal life, activities with one person in five display on a daily basis. Sharing of life at work (62%), news (55%), humorous or philosophical observations on life (54%) and material retweeting others (53%) are the most popular uses of Twitter.

As we mentioned before, Twitter is a new platform and a budding business media. It is not the scope of a Facebook because they serve for purposes different, with Twitter more than a one-to-many, asymmetrical service. Latest numbers can underline the fact that Twitter has much more to do. But it also shows that in the hands of its users, it is a powerful communications tool that serves both as a personal platform for sharing and a way to quickly deliver the news.
