Creation of Israel to examine legal letter rabbis prohibiting the houses for rent Arabs (Haaretz)

Thursday, the General Prosecutor's Office said it would be in the criminal aspects of religious decision to ban the Gentiles houses for rent signed by a number of rabbis.

Dozens of the municipal Israel rabbis had signed the letter, which came a few months after Safed Rabbi called pressing Jews to refrain rental or sale of apartments for non-Jews.

In a formal response to a motion by Meretz MK Ilan Ghilon against the letter, an assistant prosecutor, Yehuda Weinstein said Weinstein would order the review of the criminal and disciplinary aspects apparent rabbis letter.

"Attorney General think it seems that the statements attributed to the rabbis are problematic in many aspects… and inappropriate for civil servants," said the statement.

Statement by the Office of the Attorney General was the first official response by petitions for prosecution of the signatories of the letter of the legal establishment of Israel rabbis.

Earlier Thursday, the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial decried the rabbis letter arguing that it "a severe blow to values of our lives as Jews and human beings humans in a democratic State."

"Past experiences have taught us how important and at the same time fragile, these core values are the coexistence and honour," Memorial said in response to the decision.

"We know that the Jewish people, who knew the suffering and ostracism of persecution and the experience and the revocation of fundamental rights, had expressed its position on issues like these with different voices that we have heard today with this decision.

The Rabbi of leader in the sector of non - Hasidic Orthodox Israel, Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv also denounced the religious decision. "I have said for some time there the rabbis have their pens removed them," noted the Elyashiv.

"It is interesting that these same Zionist rabbis support symbolically sell their land to the Gentiles in the year shmita", he said referring to the seven year cycle when Israel agricultural fields lie fallow.
